The European Union remains a key partner to the African Union and continues to invest heavily in the peace and security process in Somalia. For 15 years the EU supported the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), investing over EUR 2.5 billion to support the Military, Police, and Civilian components as well as Quick Impact Projects (QIPS) which provide basic relief support to communities across Somalia.
The EU provided EUR 85 million to support the military component in 2023 under the European Peace Facility and a further EUR 33 million to the civilian and police components in 2023 and 2024.
