Mogadishu – The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) expresses its deepest condolences to the government and people of Somalia following the sudden demise of the immediate former Minister of Women and Human Rights, Khadija Mohamed Diriye, earlier today in Djibouti after a brief illness.
“We share the sad news with the FGS and the people of Somalia on the sudden demise of Minister Khadija, who tirelessly worked with ATMIS and the international partners to help improve the well-being of Somali women. She was at the forefront of the fight against Al-Shabaab. leading women groups to denounce terrorism. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the FGS, her family and to the Somali people. May Allah have mercy on her soul and grant her a place in Jannatul-Firdaws – Aamin,” Head of ATMIS Amb. Mohamed El-Amine Souef said.
Born, raised, and educated in Mogadishu, the late Minister Khadijo was one of the longest serving public servants, holding various roles in the government since the year 2000. She served as a Member of Parliament (MP), Minister, and State Minister in previous administrations. Until her passing today, she was an MP and the immediate Minister of Women and Human Rights.
