Kismayo – The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) Police Commissioner, Hillary Sao Kano, has expressed satisfaction with ongoing training and mentoring initiatives for Somali police officers in Jubaland State.
During a visit to Kismayo, on Monday, CP Kanu commended the training and mentoring provided by ATMIS police officers, emphasizing its importance in preparing Somali Security Forces (SSF) to assume full security responsibilities.
“We have delivered extensive training in areas like fingerprinting, community policing and traffic management and we are looking forward to providing more training to our Somali counterparts,” said CP Kano.
Leading a delegation from ATMIS headquarters in Mogadishu, CP Kanu assessed the progress made in building the Jubaland Police Force’s capacity.
ATMIS has deployed Individual Police Officers (IPOs) and Formed Police Units (FPUs) to Jubaland State for training, mentoring, and provide operational support to the local security forces.
CP Kanu thanked the police officers, the military and SPF for their support and dedication to advancing the Mission’s mandate in southern Somalia.
“I thank my police officers on the ground in Kismayo, and the military who have been working hand in hand in supporting the SSF (Somali Security Forces) and specifically the Somali Police Force to stabilise and secure the region,” said CP Kanu.
She also expressed gratitude to the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) for providing logistical support essential for the police component to fulfill its responsibilities effectively.
