PRESS RELEASE

(For Immediate release)

ATMIS PR/15/2024

Mogadishu – The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has learnt with concern allegations in some sections of the Somali media that its police component is involved in organizing the upcoming elections in Jubaland State.

ATMIS would like to underscore its neutrality and impartiality in the electoral process in Somalia, including in the ongoing electoral dispute in Jubaland, and renews its commitment to peaceful resolution of electoral disputes to ensure stability and security.

The AU Misson urges all stakeholders, including the Federal Government of Somalia and Jubaland State authorities, to engage in constructive and inclusive discussions to resolve the dispute.

ATMIS will continue to implement its mandate in full support of Somalia’s state-building process, including efforts to transition to one-person, one-vote elections through an inclusive and participatory process.
